Effect of the Twisting Tourniquet Technique (TTT)

From data collected in 2006-2013 on 599 lymphedema patients (287 arms, 312 legs; unilateral only), a 5-day TTT program reduced average arm and leg volumes by 49.5% (441 mL) and 54.3% (1,826 mL), respectively.

If swelling remains after the 5-day program, patients can continue TTT at home with proper instructions and precautions.

Continuous care is essential—e.g., wearing compression garments and avoiding triggers—since swelling can recur without maintenance.

A Patient Who Consented to Share Data

Khun Jae Toomju had lymphedema for over 10 years after cervical cancer surgery. With four months of TTT, the leg volume markedly decreased and she could return to daily life more normally.
